Niero is passionate about providing treatment options and modalities that are at the forefront of urological care globally to his local community and making these services accessible by all.

Waverley Private Hospital introduces Mr Nieroshan (Niero) Rajarubendra, a Victorian trained urologist. Niero welcomes private and public referrals from GPs for all aspects of kidney, bladder, and prostate conditions. He is also happy to give telephone advice to GPs regarding urological problems.

Niero grew up in the local area and completed his medical degree at Monash University. He undertook full-time research (with a Cancer Research Institute scholarship from New York) for three years to be awarded a Doctor of Medicine in the immunology of prostate cancer at the University of Melbourne and Ludwig Cancer Centre. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015 after completing his specialised Urology training at many major metropolitan and regional centres in Victoria and Tasmania.

Niero then undertook a two-year advanced laparoscopic and robotic fellowship at University of Southern California in Los Angeles guided and mentored by the world leaders in minimally invasive uro-oncology. This was a hands-on high-volume centre where he worked as a clinical instructor and became proficient in all aspect of minimally invasive surgery including nephron sparing surgery for complex renal tumours, radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion for bladder cancers and reconstructive surgery, making his skill base unique amongst his peers in Australia. During his fellowship years he was also able to foster his interest in research by working in the translational genomics laboratory to the furtherment of global research in metastatic prostate cancer.

On his return, Niero has joined the Southern Consulting group to provide cutting edge general urological and uro-onological services to his patients. He is passionate about providing treatment options and modalities that are at the forefront of urological care globally to his local community and making these services accessible by all.
