Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Prof Shomik Sengupta, one of Melbourne’s leading academic urologists subspecialising in urological oncology.

Shomik trained under the Victorian section of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ), and subsequently undertook a two-year uro-oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA. He is a visiting consultant and uro-oncology lead at the Urology Department, Eastern Health, and Professor of Surgery at the Eastern Health Clinical School, Monash University.

Shomik has a strong academic background, having completed two higher degrees by research and with more than 100 international publications to date. He is involved in numerous clinical trials, including through the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group, where he is a Board Director and Scientific Advisory group member.

Shomik also holds leadership positions within the GU Oncology advisory group and the Board of Urology Training within USANZ and the Clinician Network at Cancer Council Victoria.

Shomik has a particular interest, training, and expertise in surgery for urologic cancers, such as radical prostatectomy by open or robotic (Da Vinci®) techniques, prostate brachytherapy, open, laparoscopic, and partial nephrectomy, cystectomy with ileal conduit or neobladder diversion and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection.

He also offers a full range of general urologic surgical procedures, including cystoscopy, trans-urethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or bladder tumours (TURBT), ureteroscopy, vasectomy and circumcision.

Shomik has been practicing in Glen Waverley since 2006 and holds regular operating sessions at Waverley Private Hospital and is happy to see insured and uninsured patients.
