Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr Mali Okada, an ophthalmologist with sub-specialty training in medical retina and vitreo-retinal surgery. She is a consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is a senior researcher with The University of Melbourne’s Centre for Eye Research Australia. She is interested in the management of diseases of the vitreous and retina, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes.
Mali completed her fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne in both medical retina and surgical retina and additional international fellowships in London at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital and at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver where she was the William H. Ross fellow in vitreoretinal surgery.
She has published more than 30 peer reviewed papers on retinal diseases. Her research interests include novel retinal imaging techniques, and she was a recipient of the global ophthalmology award program for her work on retinal imaging using optical coherence tomography angiography.
Mali is the current co-chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists’ national Clinical Standards Committee. She also serves on the committee of the Australian New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists. She is also involved in several international collaborations for retinal experts including the Vision Academy and the Age-related Macular Degeneration Barometer Leadership Coalition.
