Waverley Private Hospital extends a warm welcome to Dr Sem Liew who graduated from the University of Melbourne (St Vincent’s Clinical School) and then completed his advanced training in oncology at Austin and Monash Hospitals. After obtaining his fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians in medical oncology, Sem has undertaken a 2 year fellowship at Austin Hospital sub-specialising in lung, gastrointestinal and brain tumours.

Sem is actively involved in oncological research. He has published scientific papers, reviewed articles, and abstracts, many of which have been presented at both local and international conferences. He is also an invited speaker at national conferences and invited reviewer in local and international oncology journals.

As well as being a medical oncologist and clinical researcher, Dr Liew currently holds the National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) postgraduate scholarship working in translational study at Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Melbourne. His work was shortlisted for the finalist at the Austin Medical Research Foundation Young Investigator Award.

Dr Liew has public appointments at Monash Health and Southern Breast Oncology, East Bentleigh. Apart being a medical oncologist, he is also a consultant general physician.

Sem speaks and writes many other languages other than English, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay, Hokkien and Hakka.
