Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr Iruka Kumarage, an obstetrician and gynaecologist with more than 20 years of experience in both fields. He also provides obstetric care for low and high risk pregnancies.
In his gynaecology practice, Iruka looks after women of all age groups with menstrual problems, pelvic pain (including endometriosis and ovarian cysts), contraception needs, menopausal issues, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fertility issues, urinary incontinence and vaginal prolapse.
Iruka previously worked as a specialist in the UK, working in London and Surrey for over ten years, before migrating to Australia with his family in 2013. Having provided his expert services to Ballarat and regional Victorian communities for a further ten years, Iruka recently moved his practice to Southeast Melbourne in 2023.
Iruka performs a wide range of gynaecological surgeries including minor (hysteroscopy, D&C, LLETZ, cone biopsy etc), intermediate (operative laparoscopy for endometriosis and ovarian cysts, procedures for urinary incontinence) and major surgeries (laparoscopic/abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, repair of vaginal prolapse).
Iruka has been a member of the teaching faculty at Melbourne and Deakin universities, and an examiner for medical trainees in both Australia and the UK. As a training supervisor for RANZCOG, Iruka helps nurture the next generation of specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology
