HOPEFUL parents will be able to access IVF treatment in Mt Waverley from next month.
Melbourne IVF is opening a clinic at Waverley Private Hospital, with everything from initial consultations to egg collection and laboratory services available on-site.
Melbourne IVF fertility specialist Scott Pearce said the clinic was coming to where it was needed.
“There’s a big demand for IVF now,” Dr Pearce said.
“A lot of our patients come from the south-eastern suburbs.”
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the number of people using IVF treatment has increased by 50 per cent over the past five years.
Dr Pearce said much of the IVF process was already available in Mt Waverley, but now patients could have all of their appointments, including egg collection, in Mt Waverley.
“Patients can stay home and close to work,” Dr Pearce said.
“It’s a very challenging time going through IVF, both physically and emotionally.”
Glen Waverley resident and former patient of Dr Pearce, Melinda Roberts has had two children through IVF after marrying late.
She gave birth to Thomas in 2008, and then Matthew in July last year.
“It can be quite a stressful period,” Mrs Roberts said.
“I think having IVF at Waverley Private will alleviate some of that stress.”
