Dec 19, 2012

Waverley Private Hospital and Melbourne IVF this week celebrated the official opening of the new a fertility clinic, laboratory and day procedure centre co-located on the grounds of Waverley Private Hospital, to provide the local community living or working in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs even easier access to world class fertility treatment.

The official launch held at the centre involved representatives from Waverley Private Hospital, Melbourne IVF, the Mayor City of Monash, and local councillor Micaela Drieberg. Established in August 2012, the Melbourne IVF fertility centre has treated more than 80 patients with patients already with pregnancy success.

Waverley Private Hospital CEO Jill Gleeson said this was an exciting initiative for Waverley Private Hospital to be able to assist more local couples and individuals realise their dream of starting a family and supporting them through their entire reproductive journey, before, during and after their pregnancy. "Patients undergoing fertility treatment will benefit from being able to undertake all of their treatment locally, avoiding the inconvenience of travelling to different facilities, or into the city, during what can be a very emotional and stressful time. Waverley Private Hospital has a proud 40 year history providing for the healthcare needs of our community, and the introduction of IVF compliments our renowned maternity, urogynaecology and gynaecology services. We are also committed to ongoing support for our obstetrics and gynaecology services."

Melbourne IVF, widely recognized as one of Australia's leading programs for in-vitro fertilization (IVF), is offering the latest breakthrough fertility treatments from the new "one stop" facility, co-located at Waverley Private Hospital, supported by a local team of fertility specialists, nursing, administration, and counselling services.

Melbourne IVF Fertility Specialist Dr Haider Najjar who spoke at the event said Melbourne IVF is very proud to work in partnership with Ramsay Healthcare at Waverley Private Hospital. "The opening of the Waverley clinic fulfils a vision we have had for many years to bring more quality services to residents in Melbourne's South East community."

Melbourne IVF Fertility Specialist Dr Scott Pearce said patients undergoing fertility treatment will benefit from undertaking all of their treatment locally, avoiding the inconvenience of travelling to different facilities for their treatment, during what can be a very emotional and stressful time. "We continue to seek ways in which we can minimise the impact of treatment on the lives of patients, and our ability to provide quality local services is one of those ways.

Melbourne IVF Managing director Andrew Othen said this development is yet another important milestone for Melbourne IVF, from our direct involvement in Australia's first IVF birth more than 30 years ago to what is now our 3rd full service location and 8th overall in Victoria. "We are committed to providing the very best patient care to Melbourne's south east, increasing awareness of our historical leadership position, as well as the technological advancements now available through the Mt Waverley facility, such as those recently made in pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

Melbourne IVF fertility specialists provide specialist consulting from the new centre, which also incorporates a day surgery and embryology laboratory, allowing patients undergoing fertility treatment to benefit from undertaking the majority of their procedures onsite, including ultrasound scans, blood tests, egg collection and embryo transfer procedures. The centre also continues to offer a specialised male fertility testing service, currently providing routine semen analysis and collection of semen samples for IVF, sperm freezing and surgical sperm collection, which is a unique service for this area.

The introduction of IVF services at Waverley Private Hospital has been driven by the strong demand for advanced fertility treatments. In Australia, one in five couples face the prospect of undertaking some form of fertility treatment, with 30 per cent of these couples needing IVF. According to figures released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the take-up rate of assisted reproductive technologies, such as IVF treatment, has risen significantly over the past five years, with the number of people accessing IVF increasing by 50 percent.

Official Launch Event: Monday 17th December, 5.30- 7pm. Unveiling of commemorative plaque. In attendance will be City of Monash Mayor and Cr Micaela Drieberg.
