Financial Information
Front Office staff will be happy to discuss the hospital fee structure and the patient's account. They can be contacted on extension 7746 during the following hours:
Business Hours
Monday to Saturday 6.45am – 8.30pm
Sunday 9.00am – 8.00pm
An estimate of a patient's hospital expenses will be provided to them prior to admission. Please note that it is only possible to provide an estimate of the eventual total hospital costs, as the services may change during the patient's stay in hospital. The extent of these changes depends on the type of procedure, the services provided to the patient during their stay in hospital and the level of insurance cover they have.
Patients With Private Health Insurance
If a patient has health insurance, it is important for them to check with their Health Insurance Fund prior to admission whether:
- Their insurance covers the cost of the procedure/operation and accommodation, if you are staying overnight;
- They need to pay an excess, i.e. the Health Fund may only pay for part of the account;
- The patient is insured for the required treatment if:
- A patient has been with the health fund for less than a year
- A patient's condition, or any symptoms of their condition, existed before joining the fund; or
- They have changed the level of your cover or fund.
There may also be additional charges for these services:
- Pharmacy
- Pathology
- Imaging – such as X-Rays
- Medical practitioners may bill separately
- STD phone calls and other sundry items, which are to be paid before leaving the hospital
Patients are not required to pay the portion of the account that is covered by health insurance, as the hospital will claim the benefits on their behalf. Please note that if for any reason the patient's Health Insurance Fund rejects the hospital claim, they will be liable for the full cost of hospitalisation.
Self insured patients
Patients paying privately will be required to pay the estimated cost of hospitalisation on admission (payment for maternity patients is due one month prior to the expected birth). It is therefore necessary for you to contact Reception for an estimate prior to your admission. On discharge, you will be directed to the Reception desk to finalise your account. All fees for doctors, diagnostic services, pharmacy and other ancillary services will be billed separately.
