Maternity: When to contact the Hospital - Labour
When to contact the Hospital - Labour
If you feel fine, remain at home for as long as possible.
If you feel unsure about staying home, ring our 24 Hr Telephone Maternity Support Line on (03) 9881 7760 for advice.
A general guide as to when to come to hospital, if in labour, is:
- Contractions lasting about 45-60 seconds
- Contractions every 5 minutes
- You need to concentrate and not talk whilst you are having a contraction
You MUST ring the hospital:
- If you feel the "waters" break or are leaking
- Any vaginal bleeding
- If you feel your baby's movements are much less than what you normally expect
- Severe headache
- Vomiting
- Any concerns at all throughout your pregnancy
